A Note From Our Senior advisor
Where Tratok Stands Amid the Exchange Turmoil
Senior Advisor, Mohammed Altajir, addresses the exchange closures shaking the wider crypto community, and what they do and do not mean for Tratok.
Over the past few weeks, our community has watched, along with the rest of the crypto industry, as one of the sector’s exchanges, some ranked inside the top fifteen on CoinMarketCap, have ceased operations. With one exchange in particular, we understand that to many that this is shocking. A platforms of this size should not simply go dark. Yet unfortunately, its C level management and co-founders have gone quiet, and the only communication has surfaced has largely tried to distance them from any responsibility.
I understand and sympathize with your frustrations. Millions of users have digital assets locked up with no ability to withdraw, no meaningful communication, and no way to independently verify the exchange’s reserves or solvency, all while troubling rumours continue to circulate.
Tratok has direct exposure of our own to this exchange. From funds allocated personally by our founders, we paid listing fees, posted security deposits, and provided liquidity in amounts well into six figures in USD terms. But that is not really what this post is about. So when I say, you are not alone, I do mean it. However, my intention today is not to criticize a third party nor contribute to the current panic and fear. I will not speculate on whether what is occurring is the result of mischief or mismanagement. I will let the public draw its own conclusions from what continues to surface. What I do want to address, plainly, is what this means for Tratok’s ecosystem and business, even under the worst case scenario in which the exchange never returns funds to its users. In short, I wish to discuss what these events mean for Tratokians, for you.
To Tratok as a business, this is close to irrelevant
Tratok was privately funded from day one. The company has never sold a single token on that exchange, a fact anyone can verify directly on the blockchain. I don’t need to give you the “Trust me” nonsense. You can see it with your own eyes. To be clear Tratok was never reliant on funding from that source and continues to have strong reserves from the capital injection of its founders. This is why despite this annoyance over the past month, the entire ecosystem and all its platforms have seen substantial daily development, new features shipping, and even employee headcount expanding. Tratok is accelerating, not slowing and this effects us less than than having a colleague in the office sneeze.
No, we will not be updating the contract
A handful of users have reached out asking us to push a contract update to mitigate this. We want to be direct: that is not going to happen, for obvious reasons.
The amount does not justify it. As the numbers above show, this is a small position that does not represent a systemic risk to the ecosystem. Beyond that, with the oracle integrations, bridges, interchain interoperability, and ecosystem integrations we already have in place, a contract swap at this stage makes no business sense. It would be an unnecessary deviation from the strong momentum we are carrying as we close in on completing the ecosystem, to solve a problem that affects a fraction of a percent of holders at the price of months of delays.
I also want to take this moment to remind everyone that Tratok originally built protections directly into the smart contract against exactly this kind of scenario. Those protections were rescinded after sustained insistence from the majority of the community. In hindsight, that was an unfortunate call on their part. Those measures would have protected the affected holders from precisely this sort of undesirable event. It is a little disappointing for us: we were ahead of the curve, we had safeguards in place to protect users from situations like this one, and the same users who campaigned to have them removed may now find themselves exposed to the very scenario those safeguards existed to prevent. It is a lesson worth all of us keeping in mind going forward.
What this should teach us, whatever happens next
To be fair, the exchange’s own withdrawal deadline has not yet passed. The early signs are not encouraging, and honestly, they are worrying, but it remains possible this turns out to be exceptionally poor handling of a crisis rather than any deliberate wrongdoing.
Regardless of how it resolves, this episode should remind everyone of two things. First, tokens sitting in a wallet you do not hold the keys to are not truly under your control, even when you retain ownership in principle. Second, it underlines the importance of transparency. There is no excuse for any exchange or custodian not to disclose its holdings on chain to prove solvency, unless it has something to hide or be ashamed of. It costs them nothing and would give them greater consumer confidence. If they are not doing this, it should immediately set of an alarm in your head. Learn from this experience.
This is a pebble on the road, not a mountain. We have amazing things ahead of us that eclipse this entirely.
If the worst happens: what Tratok will and will not do
To be clear about our own limits: Tratok cannot take action on behalf of affected users. The tokens belong to the users, not to the company, so we have no legal standing to act for them. What we can and will do is this:
If you have been affected and want to be part of that effort when (and if) it opens, keep an eye on our official channels. We will share details as soon as the portal is ready. I really hope it does not come to this, but unfortunately it may very well.
To everyone going through this
Our sympathy goes out to anyone dealing with hardship because of this, whether or not you hold TRAT. Losing access to your own assets, with silence where communication should be, is a genuinely difficult thing to sit with.
As I said earlier, I have no wish to incite further panic. I am simply outlining what this means for people should the worst case scenario materialize and being transparent on the actions that we will take. I genuinely hope that it does not come to it, but should it do so, we are fully prepared.
The way I see this is that this is just is a pebble on the road, not a mountain. Tratok’s operations were never reliant on that exchange, and they are not shaken by what has happened there. The funds tied up there were budgeted from last year and were expected to be tied up there till the end of 2026 in any case. This is why this has had zero impact on the continued development and partnership building of the ecosystem and our iterative developments to be ready for the public. Again, you would have all seen this with your own eyes daily.
To be very direct with you all, this exchange listing was sponsored by the team from our own funds solely for the benefit of the community, to offer them a place to accumulate or sell, while Tratok continued building out the ecosystem. Their actual API is not even integrated into the ecosystem for retail users or corporates like our next two exchange partners are as we were not reliant on them and they are respectively small compared to the next step up. With this said, I will refrain from commenting on this further or giving up any information that may violate our new listing agreements. I am sure that Carol will be sharing that news with you soon enough.
I will leave you all by saying that Tratok have some very exciting things coming to the public. Things that people have never seen. People are used to seeing a whitepaper, a discord chat filled with emojis and spam and hype. What do you think will happen when they actually log into to Tratok’s ecosystem for the first time and actually learn that blockchain has real world disruptive uses and isn’t just a speculation tool. Remember this last sentence when I tell you than in the very near future, you will not even remember or be talking about this exchange closing. I am confident it will age very well!
