The Balances ThatDon’t Add Up.An update from Voices by Tratok

Since Voices opened, we have been doing the slow, careful work: registering cases, checking evidence and even meeting some affected holders in person. One finding stands out, and everyone affected deserves to hear it.

What we are seeing

When we compare the tokens visible on-chain in the exchange’s known wallets with the balances holders have shown us in person, in their own accounts, the on-chain figure is only a fraction of them. And that is before counting the far larger balances members have shared with us through screenshots.

Put simply

The exchange’s records say holders own far more than the wallets we can see appear to hold.

An exchange balance is a promise: a line in a database saying the tokens are yours. The blockchain is the reality: the tokens actually held. When the promise is larger than the reality, the difference has nothing behind it.

What “paper tokens” are

“Paper tokens” is the name for balances that exist on an exchange’s books without the real tokens behind them. Think of a bank vault issuing more gold certificates than it has gold. On screen every certificate looks the same. The difference only shows when everyone asks for their gold at once.

For a long time, holders have asked why withdrawals stalled while their balances still looked healthy. Paper tokens could be the answer, and the gap we are seeing is consistent with it. It also sits alongside what the public record already shows:

✓In 2023 BitMart said it was “working on” a Merkle-tree proof of reserves. We have not found one published since.
✓On 9 September 2026 BitMart acknowledged “withdrawal restrictions” and gave no reserve figures.
✓Independent checks in August found withdrawals switched off on most coin networks.

Sources and dates for each point are on the Voices timeline.

Why it is so concerning

Holders could not all be paid in full
If balances are larger than the tokens held, a wind-down cannot hand every holder the tokens their account shows.
Prices could be distorted
Selling tokens that never existed on-chain adds supply out of thin air, pressing on the price for every holder, including people who never used the exchange.
Supply figures could mislead
A token’s real circulation would differ from what trading suggests, damaging the trust projects and holders depend on.
It reaches every listed project
If it happened with one token, every project and holder on that exchange has reason to ask the same question.

This is not a finding of wrongdoing by anyone, and we do not use labels that only a court or regulator can apply. BitMart is welcome to respond, and we will publish its reply in full.

What happens next

1
Verify
We keep checking balances with holders in person and matching them against what is on-chain.
2
Document
Verified totals are recorded carefully, without exposing anyone’s identity.
3
Act together
With each member’s permission, verified cases go to the lawyers, law enforcement and regulators working on this.
4
Ask for proof
We are asking, again, for a proof of reserves that anyone can check.

The more balances we verify, the clearer the gap becomes, and the harder it is to ignore.

How you can help

If you hold funds on BitMart, register your case. Add screenshots of your balances, any withdrawal attempts and the deposit transaction hashes from your own wallet. Every verified balance makes the picture clearer for everyone.

Stay safe

Anyone who offers to recover your funds for a fee is a dishonest actor, even if they mention Voices or Tratok. Official contact comes only through voices.tratok.com or an @tratok.com address.

Voices update: quick answers

What are paper tokens?

Balances shown on an exchange’s books without the real tokens behind them on the blockchain.

Does this mean my funds are gone?

Nobody can say that yet, and nobody honest will promise recovery. What matters now is that your balance is documented and verified, so it counts.

Is Voices accusing BitMart of fraud?

No. We report what we see, label it carefully and invite BitMart to respond. Findings are for courts and regulators.

Voices organises and documents cases. It is not a law firm, nothing here is legal or financial advice, and Voices is not affiliated with BitMart.
